  • I have always dug this type of music ever since I was a kid. But nobody got me being that im black and from the hood everybody says " U just wanna be white" but whenever I would turn past the weather channel and hear some soothing music like this I just couldn't turn away.

  • This song is Smooth Jazz

  • @mrpotatohead34 It was a lot farther back (Early 20th centruy, derived from a mix of African and European tradition), But you have the gist.

  • If there's something that I know for sure in music, specially in Smooth Jazz, you can't be a Smooth Jazz Fan without having great appreciation for Russ Freeman and his legendary band, The Rippingtons. I just Love The Rippingtons.

  • @Shaolin913 same here bro and anyone who can say you shouldnt listen to some type of song cuz your black nothing but an idiot

  • @lakotabob WELL PUT !!!

  • @Shaolin913 dont listen to them, jazz is where it's at! and, not to sound like a total ignorant jackass, didnt like black ancestry in the US create the first jazz/blues during the 50-60s?

  • @Shaolin913 - I completely understand. Everyone has their own interests, and tastes in music. Be nice if everyone could broaden their out-look on music and other things and not be so narrow about one point of view. It started with the Blues, progressed to Jazz, then Jazz Fusion and hence the "sound" you like about The Rippingtons. Jazz & Blues also branched out to Soul and R&B to Rapp & Hip Hop. All branches of the same tree. Think about it. They really have no room to complain. Peace

  • @lakotabob I totally get what U are saying and all, but please understand thats just how it is where Im from and if it aint about FIGHT, SHOOT, KILL, MY RIMS, AND THESE BITCHES WAKA FLOKA they cant relate to it. Now dont get me wrong there are some folks who actually do listen to this kind of music where Im from, it just so happens that are not under the age of 40. Im 26

  • @Shaolin913 Just read your comment on True Companion by The Rippingtons. - It's ironic that anyone would play the race card when it comes to music. Music is an emotional expression that is above skin color. A guy by the name of Kim Stone played Bass for The Rippingtons, and Spyro Gyra and appears on many other artists musical works. Mr. Stone is black, one heck of a Bassist and has made a pretty good living playing. People are inspired to what inspirits them.

  • @Shaolin913 if it wasn't for the weather channel, smooth jazz would've been non-existant to me. I heard this gem in 1995 and 2000.

  • Ashame Shaolin comes from a hood that is closed minded. In Philly People of color make up most of the audience at the free Summer Concerts put on by Peter White, Dave Koz, Al Jarreau and the like.
