Based on the CMOS camera sensors we succeeded in developing an App for android mobiles, working as a real Geiger Counter. This is not a fun app as many other ! We already did several measurements on different devices with several calibrated radiation sources (CO60, CS137 from 10 µS/h to 1 Sv/h) The App is available now on Android 2.2 and newer devices with a list of devices we have already calibrated. Part of the work is done at the Helmholtz research facility at munich. For example 1µSv/h produces 170 counts per minute on a Nexus One phone or Samsung Mini with excellent senseitivy. We work on other platforms see homepage.App is out now! The phones have different sensitivity we will list them in a table, which you find on the homepage.

  • Can't imagine I'm going to have to need of something like this anytime soon, but it sure is cool!

  • @MrNoln we hope we don't really need it ... but since Fukushima and other things going around ... .

  • Great Work!

when will this app be available for the Iphone 3GS?

  • @Flachzange1337 we just test the whole iphone serie, the results look very good, we are shortly before release, but it need to go through the apple certification which usually might take a while (3-8 weeks in worst cases). Supported will be iphone 3gs, iphone 4, ipod 4 and ipad 2.

  • @rolfdieterklein big advantage, the iphone/pod and ipads will come with calibrated data sets. In contrast to the Android phones where we have around 600 different models.

  • @Flachzange1337 3gs iphone4 iphone4S (excellent test data) ipod4 and ipad2 will come, we still are testing and optimizing the software.
