jan fabre is a belgian artist, also famous for his bic-art (ballpen drawings),, what blew me away (apart from the obvious stuffed bird) was the fact that the coffin was made with japanese beetle (or whichever bugs they are) shells..
The swann died of natural causees, the title of the work is "Leda". Jan Fabre's work always revolves around the thin line between life and death. Besides making sculptures, Fabre is also very active as a theatre-director. By the way, the beetleshells aren't Japanese, but South-East Asian (region of Indonesia, Singapore). There, they are considered a delicassy and are eaten just like mussels or prawns.
