the only reason people dont aggree with tony campolo is he shows up something in them, tony never says you get saved by helping the poor, but once we are saved it is our duty to care for the poor and the oppressed. you can not knock this mans teachings, i have listened to john mcarther and other preachers and none of them speak with as much passion as tony does about the love of christ and salvation. you never hear tony campolo bad mouthing any of his critics, that says something.

@Oakwoodreesors we are not to judge individuals but on the other hand we are to judge the fruit of those people we see in order to protect us and the ones we love we judge there works and there actions to determine if they are a christian brother or sister or a friend of the enemy before you make a public statement please justify your comments with the Bible read James chapter 2

Christ also judges the thought and intent of the heart. And when government trys to arbitrarily bring about social justice, they are actually perverting the message of Jesus, because redistribution of money through force robs a man's gift of "giving". Giving from the abundance of the HEART is what Jesus proclaimed, not the abundance of the pocket book. Taxes aren't a form of "gift giving".

Taking care of the poor through to government programs is NOT WHAT JESUS SAID!!! Individuals have to give to the poor not corrupt government agencies. Wake up!! socialism will not help the poor. It brings everyone down except the elitists!

All he's saying is that we aren't acting regenerated! At some point, taking care of the poor requires actually taking care of the poor! Matthew 25 doesn't say, "I was naked and you gave me a tract. I was thirsty and you played a Christian DVD for me." Yes, everyone needs the gospel above all. But it's empty words if you don't back it up with actions. That's the WHOLE POINT of Matt. 25:31-46. See also Luke 3:11, James 2:15-16, and 1 John 3:17. Actions are just as mandatory as spreading the word!

Are you kidding me... REALLY????? Have you so easily judged Campolo's motives and have you so easily discounted Campolo's faith in Jesus Christ. You should post as a YoungJesusFollower rather than a young Calvinist. Calvin did not die for your sins. (how does it feel to be judged so readily?)

Campolo forgets that taking care of the poor springs from faith in Christ. We are not sent to preach social justice, we are sent to proclaim the Gospel. Social justice is a fruit of God's regenerating work throught the Gospel.
