Heil dir im Siegerkranz war von 1871 bis 1918 die kaiserliche Hymne des Deutschen Reiches. Eine Nationalhymne im heutigen Sinne war es nicht. Insbesondere die süddeutschen Staaten standen dem Lied skeptisch gegenüber. Der Text stammt von Heinrich Harries und wurde ursprünglich 1790 für den Geburtstag des dänischen Königs Christian VII. gedichtet. Die Melodie dagegen entspricht der britischen Hymne „God Save the Queen", was in national gesinnten Kreisen nicht sehr gern gesehen war.
God Save the Queen („Gott schütze die Königin!") bzw. God Save the King („Gott schütze den König!") ist seit Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts die Nationalhymne des Vereinigten Königreichs von Großbritannien und Nordirland, weiterhin ist sie eine der zwei Nationalhymnen von Neuseeland und die Königshymne aller Commonwealth Realms. Daneben gelten das Lied Rule Britannia und Arthur C. Bensons Land of Hope and Glory zur Melodie von Sir Edward Elgars Marsch Pomp and Circumstance No.1 als „inoffizielle" Nationalhymnen Großbritanniens.
Heil dir im Siegerkranz (German: "Hail to Thee in Victor's Crown") was from 1871 to 1918 the unofficial national anthem of the German Empire. Previously it had been the anthem of Prussia, but the melody of the hymn is actually the same as the British anthem, God Save the King. For both reasons, the song failed to become popular within some circles in Germany. Not only did it fail to win the support of most German nationalists, but it was never recognized by the southern German states (e.g. Bavaria, Württemberg). After the First World War, the German Empire came to an end and Das Lied der Deutschen became the national anthem of the Weimar Republic.
Heil dir im Siegerkranz fue desde 1871 hasta 1918 el himno oficioso del Imperio Alemán. Previamente fue el himno de Prusia, pero la melodía del himno es actualmente la del himno del Reino Unido God Save the Queen. Por dos razones, esta canción no fue popular: la primera es fue bien acogida por círculos nacionalistas alemanes, pero no por los estados del sur de Alemania como Baviera y, la segunda razón es porque después de la Primera Guerra Mundial cayó el Imperio Alemán y la canción Das Lied der Deutshen se convirtió en el himno oficial de la República de Weimar.

Heil Dir im Siegerkranz (Ave a te nella corona di vincitore), fu l'inno monarchico tedesco (precedentemente prussiano) dell'Impero tedesco della famiglia reale degli Hohenzollern. Fu, altresì, una sorta di inno nazionale.
La melodia fu la medesima dell'inno nazionale britannico e per tale motivo non fu mai ben vista dai circoli nazionalisti tedeschi. Il testo fu scritto da Heinrich Harries.
Heil dir im Siegerkranz (Heil U in de Zegekrans) was het volkslied van het Duitse Keizerrijk. In 1922 werd het vervangen door het Deutschlandlied. Oorsprong van de tekst is onbekend.
Toen Duitsland een verenigd keizerrijk werd in 1871 onder Wilhelm I, werd het de melodie van het volkslied van Pruisen ingesteld als volkslied. Pruisen voerde dit volkslied sinds 1840, hiervoor was het Ich bin ein Preuße. De melodie van Heil dir im Siegerkranz is gelijk aan die van het volkslied van Engeland (God Save the Queen) en Liechtenstein. De Zuidduitse staten (zoals Beieren, Württemberg) hadden grote moeite dit volkslied te accepteren. Omdat er geen ander lied voorhanden was, bleef het ook na de abdicatie van Wilhelm II, in 1918, gelden.
