NOTE: The first portion of the video is sideways, only because my camera is crap and I needed to get the most amount of pixel information on the screen as possible. I would later rotate and scale to proper size.

A friend requested some of my skills to catch his head on fire for a video. My initial idea was to do it in 3D. But my curiosity got the better of me. I decided to try some practical effects first to see if I could composite them in, and have it look good.

Though in no way successful, the results of this test were surprising.

I sculpted his head in rough, just so the flames behaved properly along the surface. The scene was going to be used as a Luma Key, hence me turning out the lights. This was the 4th of a series of failed tests. But once The flame went out, there was a surprising side result.

The clay (super sculpy) started to burn and blister like skin. What was even better is that the crispy parts of the skin started to crack and reveal a blood red under structure. The side of the face really looked like burned flesh. it became tight and pulled together revealing a gory fleshy mess underneath.

very cool results for a failed test. Next time i might go larger scale. Flames will look better.
