The dull sound of the horse's hooves echoed in her ears, the summer wind sweeping her long, golden brown hair back. Nothing could make her feel happier, and there was no other thing that could make her feel more free.

''Faster,'' she whispered with a smile, intertwining her small fingers with the horse's long, black mane. She loved the rush she got from flying across the fields with the wind hitting her face, making her tear up. She was fearless, there was nothing that could bring her down.

The feeling of being fearless was something new to her, the newfound strength making her feel invincible. Nothing could bring her down now.

If you saw her today, you would see a happy girl. What you probably never would be able to guess, was that the smile she was wearing was her first smile in a year.

She remembered the white walls, and the white floors. It was quiet, the silence only broken when someone let out an eerie scream, or at night, when the silent sobs echoed through the thin walls, sending chills down her spine. It wasn't a pleasant place to be, and she was happy to know that she would never go back there. Never.

The part of the hospital where her parents had sent her was full of people with the same problem as her — they were all bulimic.

Her parents tried to help her. The people at the hospital tried their best to help her, she knew that. And she tried to help herself, but nothing worked.

She wasn't strong enough to do it alone, but when she needed the support and help, her friends were not there for her anymore. When they found out about her ''problems'', they all decided that she was either weird, disgusting or freaky.

So those people she had always called friends, were they really her friends? She didn't have the answer.

It was a sad girl that walked out of the doors of the hospital, a summer morning in June. After spending five months, trapped inside the house of white walls and white floors, she was better. Still not good enough to feel fine, but she was better than before. She had gained weight, but lost life.

What was better; living, but with a constant pain in your chest, knowing that what you had never would come back, or not living at all? The girl wasn't completely sure.

It had been a week earlier, her mother had dragged her to a farm just a few minutes away. She was protesting, doing everything she could to make her mother change her mind, with absolutely no success whatsoever.

Her mother didn't want to see her daughter suffer anymore, and was determined to help her. If it didn't work, nothing could help her. It was the last thing left that could possibly help, and it was worth a try.

''This is Sahabat,'' she was introduced to the black horse with the big, brown eyes. There was an instant connection between the two, something the girl had never felt before.

There was something about the way the honest eyes of his looked back at her.

And now there they were, galloping at a speed that stirred up butterflies in her stomach. She had found life again, and felt how the freedom rushed through every vein in her body. It was all she had ever dreamt of.

He had made her feel alive again.

This kind-hearted, beautiful creature would always be there for her, no matter what. He would never let her down, or talk behind her back. Sahabat really was a true friend.

She confided in him. Whenever she felt sad, or just needed someone to talk to, he was always the one she'd turn to. Because even though he couldn't speak, all he had to do was lay his head on her shoulder, the warm air from his nostrils tickling her neck, and flick his ears in a way that told her he was listening. And that was all she needed. A friend who would hear her out without judging.

''I'm so glad I have you, Sahabat. I couldn't imagine a life without you,'' she whispered as the horse slowed down to a halt. ''I love you.''

And the words she spoke were true. She loved him, and it didn't matter to her that he couldn't say it back. The love he had shown her by just helping her smile again, was enough for her. There really was something special about him — Sahabat.
