LYRICS:

Wayne Cochran - Last Kiss

Chorus

Where, oh where, could my baby be?
The Lord has taken her away from me.
She's gone to heaven,
So I've got to be good.
So I can see my baby when I leave
This world.

Verse 1:

We were out on a date,
In my daddy's car.
We hadn't driven
Very far.

There in the road,
Straight ahead.
A car was stalled,
The engine was dead.

I couldn't stop,
So I swerved to the right.
I'll never forget
The sound that night.

The cryin' tires,
The bustin' glass.
The painful scream
That I heard last.

Chorus

Verse 2:

When I woke up
The rain was pouring down.
There were people standin'
All along.

Something warm,
Running in my eyes.
But I found my baby
Somehow that night.

I moved her head,
She looked and smiled.
Said, "Hold me darling,
For a little while."

I held her close,
I kissed her our last kiss.
I found the love
That I knew I had missed.

Well now she's gone,
Even though I held her tight.
I lost my love, my life
That night.

Chorus

Pearl Jam's is much sadder to listen to just because of Eddie Vedder's voice.

i love pearl jam so much, can't even tell how much. but you got it all wrong man. this is classic. you can't compare the two due to the different time period which they both taking place . this is is from the fucking 60's, where music had this unique sound and taste.

I used to love the Pearl Jam version but I now I realize the J. Frank one is the best one!

This is such a sweet sad song, I prefer the PJ cover though because you can believe this happened to the singer. And they also retained that old style of music in their cover. This is a beautiful song but I think it's too boppy for such a sad subject. Both versions are good though, just prefer PJs

The Phantom Riders do a good cover of this song as well... not just Pearl Jam.

How can anyone compare this version from 1964 to Pearl Jams' version from 2 thousand something? Com'on people use a lil commonsense.....

Both versions, Pearl jam and this one are great, why should there be a competion?
