We've received many inquiries from hobbyists in the saltwater community about using the breeding box as quarantine and possibilities of using it as a refugium. After receiving the inquiries, SevenPorts decided to look into the possibilities. We can confirm that it is possible to utilize the breeding box as a hang on back refugium. The confirmation comes after the fact we tested the idea on our own reef aquarium. We removed the air inlet and replaced that with a small power head with nozzle diameter of ½". The flow rate from the pump should be no less than 40gph and no higher than 80gph. The first chamber where the water dumps in, users can utilize a single divider with ceramic media to help get rid of micro bubbles. The next two chambers can be used as a fuge area harboring bacteria, algae, & cope-pods.
