  • I think that SFIII is graphically better than IV. The animation style is more hard and intense than in IV, where it's too smooth to feel the hits. Example: The 3s throws have a swift slam and a screenshake when you hit the ground. SFIV looks like the person is being dropped as lightly as a feather.

  • Maybe graphically, but be assured that technically, it's more complex.

  • Beautiful parrying of the air tatsumaki.

  • truTECH

  • @DarkBlueHole

...and yes, the SF4 models are pretty ugly. Lol.

  • @DarkBlueHole Wow. Taking what you said into consideration, I do still believe that they went 3D for the more modern look. I mean, the multi-year interval between SF3 and SF4 should have been sufficient enough to gather the budget needed to kickstart a new SF series. If they wanted 2D more than 3D, perhaps it'd still be in development. :S 3D also seems to be more capable when dealing with customizable features, I would guess. Unlockable costumes: fit onto model or re-draw/re-animate new clothes?

  • @rioshu actually, it's WAY WAY WAY more expensive to do a game by sprites, especially at our modern high-def resolutions. each blazblue character has more than 1000 sprites. that would be like, 40000 sprites for ssf4, not counting backgrounds and effects)

mind you, i love sprites, i'm just informing you that yes, for an animation-driven game like sf, 3D is far more efficient to develop. like, chun-li's arms in sf4, WTF. or c vipers man-bulge on her crotch. the models in sf4 are so ugly...

  • @rioshu seems easier to make a 3d model put a skeleton underneath and pose the model, than to by hand draw every single frame of a characters animation, especially as each game has to top the last one graphically.

  • @beniceokay Seems to me that they went 3D to keep up with the latest trend and to not be left behind by the new fans who would have disregarded it for its 2D-ness. Sounds more plausible than your idea of saving budget cash, I think. It'd be a save to exchange 2D for 3D animators? To model/sculp rather than draw/paint?

  • mechanically 3s is more complex and graphically sf4 went 3d just to save a few bucks, hiring animators is expensive.

  • @rioshu also to appeal to American audiences they beefed up the characters in sf4 (actually in alpha they started that (and character art for hyper fighting) overall it feels too cartoony, the best would be a more naturalistic look like sf 2 done in high def (not the hd manga remix).

  • @d6d1 lol sf4 is technically more complex than 3s??? lol what a joke
