google doesnt make the whole book available, they index it and make it easier to find. people can read a few pages online.
however current copyright laws require permission even for that, and european copyright is more about artistic integrity and author control of works than about money.

@kikeocho so if you spent 2 years writing a book, and put it in stores to make a living, you wouldnt care if I scanned it, put it on the net, and made you lose your money? think about it.
