Grandma told me that when she moved to Ridgewood about 1904, the el structure ended at Wyckoff and the train went down a ramp and ran at ground level along the "Lutheran right of way". When the el was extended to Fresh Pond, the ground level tracks were used by the Flushing-Ridgewood trolley, which my father took to get to Newtown H.S. as G. Cleveland hadn't been built. To get to downtown Brooklyn, we let the "steel" train go by and took the "wooden" train, the most rickety thing I ever saw.
You can still see trolley tracks under the el on Palmetto and St. Nicholas. They are upgrading the bus depot there. Come to think of it they may also pave that road. I better get those trolley tracks on video before they are lost forever. Thanks for your insight.
