  • What a minute, why is John Candy missing from this season??

  • Because it took so long to get season 3 up and running, and by that time John Candy had already taken another job offer, "Big City Comedy" on CTV.

  • Someone online sent me copies of his old VHS tapes he recorded from NBC around this time - an episode of 1980-81 SNL followed by an SCTV. Now that's awesome viewing. :-)

Kind of funny to see Duke and Rosato on here, since they'd move to SNL this very same season.

  • It hasn't worked out very well for Rosato....

  • @steeltownbrown52 Wow thats interesting! I was just saying that it's obvious each of them fit those character personalities well. Either way they certainly worked good as replacements!

  • @chriszaharias1985 Robin Duke and Catherine O'Hara have been friends since childhood. Tony Rosato and John Candy were pretty tight too. Rick Moranis was brought in through Dave Thomas. Rosato wasn't the "token fat guy" and Moranis wasn't the "token nerdy guy",they all had different ranges.

  • This is the SCTV opening I remember. Any time you can make good use of old Atlas missile footage, you're doing the dang thing!

  • Gotta love the satellite!

  • "..and even the tiny Republic of--- plpppth."

If they'd left it there it would be even more hilarious!

  • ...OH, but you did, YOU DID. Today you are on YOUTUBE.COM. SCTV cast...you have reached the world and beyond!

  • It seems they obviously replaced Cahterine O'Hara with Robin Duke and replaced John Candy with similar heavy set guy Tony Rosato, but strange how Rick Moranis was added too as he seemed to replace the nerdy character roles that Harold Ramis did so well years before!

  • @KomedyKollector - And Catherine O'Hara was trying her luck in the U.S., including a run on the very short lived "Steve Allen Comedy Hour" on NBC in 1980-81.
