Wow, Bill Ayers does not look good. No wonder he does not grant interviews. He does not apoligize for his previous dispicable acts. For once Chris Matthews did a good job.

He is calling himself guilty by saying 'guilt by association'. Ayres is distancing himself from Obama so Obama would not be deemed "bad". This is a communistic styled positioning of Obama. The ends justify the means. Ayres will distance himself so as to progress Obama's stature. If they weren't really buddies, I don't think Ayres would try so hard to distance himself from Obama.
