Nobuyuki's Mozart has not been heard much outside of Japan. To me, his Mozart is unconventional but gorgeous. I had the fortune of hearing him play Mozart's K330 Sonata when he was touring in the U.S. in April 2011, and would never forget the vibrant and enchanting tone of that performance.
This video is extracted from a documentary shown in Japan in 2010, Nobuyuki Tsujii 辻井伸行 performs Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 26 K537 (Coronation) with conductor .Junichi Hirokami 広上淳一 and the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra in a sold-out concert held in Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall, Japan, July 2010. The performance is interleaved with interviews of Mr. Tsujii and Mr. Hirokami. Even though we only heard bits of the performance, the beauty of Nobu's play is unmistakable.

  • Unusual and powerful Mozart playing! He ought to play the Mozart 18th concerto. Which Mozart composed for his blind friend pianist Maria Theresia von Paradis!

  • @ellandelachapelle I agree about the "unusual and powerful Mozart playing! " And good point about the Mozart 18th concerto.

  • Just announced: In Japan, three new concert appearances of Nobu, in which he will perform Mozart concertos with Ensemble Kanazawa and Inoue Mitiyoshi on September 25, 27 and 28. See Nobu's own official website, or go to my "nobufans" site to get the links for tickets.

  • Thanks to a Japanese Nobu fan, this is what Conductor Hirokami said in this video: "We cannot figure out what it is like to be in Nobu's universe, but he is connecting with it like the music muse. Every moment, he exudes so much power in his music and is looking for his own sound. The music is evolving as he

plays it. He is fusing with the music. When I am conducting beside Nobe, I felt this about him."

  • Wonderful!

  • Nobu simply inspires me to be a better person. His talent goes beyond simply being a sightless pianist, there is a magic and fusion which occurs between him and the music which is hard to describe. What truly blessed person we are witnessing and the truth is that I feel as if I am the one being blessed by his existence.
