  • i have walked the fells many times and have never been lucky enough to get the weather were the cloud is below me. cloud inversion is the term is it? does it only happen in the winter time? i only go fellwalking in the warmer months.

  • Probably ´temperature inversion´ is more the correct term. It´s where a layer of cool air gets trapped underneath a layer of warmer air. Have seen a few in Scotland and England but never as good as this. I don´t know if they are more common in winter or not I´m afraid. This was the time (xmas 2006) that the whole of the uk was effected by a fog that wouldn´t shift. I remeber on the news they said it caused caos at Heathrow airport.
