This is the Fiberglass Ladies Bicycle designed by my Daughter, Mellisa. Also known as "NFA Vehicles Type 9". The front end (bonnet) is a storage/cargo box, which has an aerodynamic shape derived from the spoiler on a diesel semi Truck (articulated Lorry). In addition, the fairing (windshield) is a protective shield, which protects the cyclist from anything he or she may run into. It's a great bicycle for riding on sidewalks (pavements), because the hood (bonnet) also acts like a cowcatcher on a Locomotive, and protects pedestrians from the wheels and handlebars. (Note: If you are over 14 years age, you are not supposed to ride a bike on the sidewalk.) The cargo box is accessed from the riders position, very much like a glove compartment in an Automobile. It would be a good place to carry a handgun. People always ask "What is that thing on the front of your bike?" I usually tell them "it's a Cargo Box", and keep riding. I should say "It's a protective shield to make the bike rider safer".
If I say "It's an aerodynamic device, called a Fairing, or Spoiler." People get argumentative with me. I am not sure why people argue with me about aerodynamics. Maybe it's because Air is invisible, and one can not see the air being deflected around the rider. And some people tell me "There's no such thing as a fairing!" I don't get this argument; If you see something you've never seen before, and you have to ask what it is, wouldn't it be logical that the "Word" is one that you've never heard before? Etymologically, it is called a FAIRING, because it blocks the strong wind blowing, leaving only a FAIR wind.
This bike weighs 55 pounds, but it would be possible to cast a new bike in the original mold, and by substituting Carbon Fiber for Glass Fiber, the weight could be kept down to about 22 pounds.
Aerodynamic devices such as Fairings (windshields) are not allowed in Bicycle Races because it is considered CHEATING. If it didn't work, it wouldn't be cheating to have one on your bike.
The entire top on the frame is a Deck, which enables the rider to carry a passenger, as this video shows. Also, it is easy for a stuntman to stand on the bike and ride it like it's a Surfboard.
This bike cost $270 (in materials) to build, and I sold it for $1,215.00, making a profit of 450%.
Since the time this bike was built, there has been an influx of Electric Bicycles, or Electric Mopeds into the market. But this bike was first. The front end cargo box is actually built to carry five 12 volt, 7 amp/hour batteries, to tun an electric motor at sixty volts. But I sold out before the project was finished.
My Daughter has Horses, so she didn't care if I sold the bike, but her Horsemanship is the reason she designed this bike so it can be ridden side-saddle.
This bike has 24 inch wheels, not 26 inch.
The only good place to carry a handgun is on your person!
