  • OK, I've been looking all over for places around here that get their olives in barrels. Everyone I ask gets them in buckets (pails) or bagged. So, who are good places to check? Italian restaurant.. bagged. Grocery stores.. pails. No one gets them in barrels. Help.

  • Any tips on getting the old barrels clean......getting the olive smells out?

  • used the same barrels when we do our canoe trips in Algonquin park in Canada. I did the same by going to my local grocery store. Save a great deal of money and works great. Took it a step further and add four "O" ring screws through the plastic, Purchased two clip on straps, Use silicone around the screws. We use the barrels for all our food. We carry the barrels on our chest, our 90lb packs on our back and canoe over head.

    Great idea and Video

  • @callancanoe Your very welcome. I found them in the super market getting gallon Zips for GORP. I had never seen them before...so I think they are fairly new. I use a Dry-Bag Pack for my gear, but still pack food in my big old Duluth pack. I had always lined it with trash a bag, but the big zippies are much better.

Lol Yea, its the same in Minnesota with the Bears. The only safe place is up.

I Have never been to the Adirondacks. but hope to soon, Maybe next year!

  • Do not assume barrels are safe from bears. In Algonquin park they have become like coolers for the bears. The moment they see them, the bears will tear them apart to get to the food.

Large Zip-Locks are a great idea as well. Thanks for the tip

  • Barrels are for bears, not water. If you want to keep everything dry, take a look at the new HUGE Zip Lock bags; 2.5'x3' !. They are big enough to line a Duluth Pack like the one you have, are inexpensive and tough. I used them last year on a 6 week trip thru the Boundary Waters and they worked great. Best of all they also work great to keep your trash in as you empty your food pack.

Bears? Be smart and Hang your food...a Bear can still run off with your barrel.

  • Love your vlogs Kevin, great tips.

  • but what about the weight!

  • Another good one! Always fun to watch. I get a disliker everyonce in a while ... no comments or suggestions ... just dislike ... oh well to each their own!

  • Hey Kevin, I was in a outdoor store looking at paddles there is a bunch of different kinds, So I left with out buying one. You should do a segment on paddles. Like the vids keep em coming.
