A proper stiff ass Brit in the land of terrorists and towel heads. Exciting? BOORING! BBC can take any exciting topic and completely put you to sleep with it. SCREW the BBC!

I've got the DVD's of this somewhere, it's been too long since I've seen it. I'm gonna have to get out my entire collection of Palin's travels this summer.

Could the BBC do anything like this kind of series today? It's hard to believe how much can change in 20 years.

@annbretagne In case you're wondering, although I am posting 2 years later, the Beeb will be phasing in an international (paying) iPlayer in the near future.

@mshnouakchott Did you even bother watching any of the series?

That's possible--the BBC show "top gear" takes extreme "liberties" with its "travel" shows--staging some events more obviously. Er technically he does cross "some" of the desert if you want to get petty :).
It's Michael Palin, he can say whatever he likes.

And?
This series wasn't based upon a wager or a bet. It wasn't made to prove a point. It was merely a gentle series depicting what it is like to travel across a continent.
If this bothers you so much then please, watch some 'reality tv'. You'll be astonished at the lengths tv companies go to to twist the footage to tell a completely different story.
