You have to jump as the springy platform is coming up, in other words, build rhythm in sync with the platform. Just like a trampoline. You jump when it bounces up against your feet. You wouldn't attempt to jump as you're landing in the trampoline would you? It would be very awkward and difficult to do.
This level is very memorable for just being totally quirky and having one of the best songs in Story mode, it just fits with the level so wonderfully. The name of the song is Volver a comenzar by Cafe Tacuba. Check out the complete music video here:

The jumping skills for this level make it very hard considering how early it appears it the game... : (

actually you can do the X2 by only one player you just need to timed your jumps and grabs my brother did it in front of me.
