A year after a private equity backed investor bought the Bronx apartment building, 1520 Sedgwick Avenue, tenants say housing code violations have piled up.
The so-called hip hop community live in rich suburbs in NJ or places just like it. They may even be neighbors of the new landlord. They most likely will "stick to their own kind."
It's not only the lower class. IA friend who lives in a rent stabilized apartment. A speculator bought his apartment, and defrauded the bank (now in jail) who sold it to an investment package. The owner/bank is losing money every month, and is sending lawyers to try to get him out on various BS issues. My friend has already spent over $10k trying to protect himself and his family. They are not doing needed repairs, and blaming him. He just wants to pay his rent and live in peace.
The story doesn't include the fact that this building is the BIRTHPLACE OF HIP HOP!!!! Look up Kool Herc and you'll know the real history. Why isn't this place on the national historic registry or at least music history? Where is the hip hop community? Why don't they step up to save the building? Stay Tuned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
unfortunately the people in charge, including people that can buy entire building are all penny pinching demons, its a chame so many peoples homes are in such poor condition, though its a low income type area and such and you cant expect paradise it should still be better than that, makes me sad
