Short life????? I have had several rotaries pass the 200,000 mile mark!! If you want them to last you have to know how to tune them properly, and in general how to take care of them! For all you rotary guys, I had a TII with an aftermarket turbo that had 245,000 miles on it! I sold it to a good friend of mine who is STILL driving it!
