Lights flashing to the notes in StepMania files. They're controlled by a program which I made which reads SM files and plays through the notes (it's the same program which controlled the servos in my previous video where the servos pressed the arrow keys for StepMania).

Technical rubbish:
The main microcontroller is an SSC-32.
The bulbs are each 2-Watt 21-LED 12-Volt bulbs, producing the same amount of light as a 25-Watt halogen bulb.

EDIT: Ah, YouTube's messed up the sync again...

Songs, by the way, are "UsaTewi" and "Marisa wa taihen na mono wo nusundeikimashita" (in Touhou SM pack 1), both by IOSYS.

  • how would you go about integrating this program with a J-PAC for an actual DDR Arcade cabinet?

  • From what I can gather, the J-PAC generates key presses and releases on a computer as you press/release switches connected to the J-PAC (I have the I-PAC, and presume that the J-PAC is similar in this respect). If so, then simply run my StepMania Player program and click "Realtime Light Control", and follow the instructions on the new window to set the keys (keycodes) which it responds to to the keys which the J-PAC emulates. Once configured, you don't have to keep my program on top.

  • Question, where did you actually get those lights?

  • I bought the bulbs from a shop on eBay called Qwikfast.

  • If i could get a schematic of this or some detailed instructions that would be awesome! I would love to have something like this

  • I've already made a guide video which shows how I made mine (as they are in this video) - it even appears in the list of related videos.
