Birth of the World Fair Trade Organization

On the 15th October 2008, in Sri Lanka, the International Federation of Alternative Trade aka the International Fair Trade Association (IFAT) voted by a 91% majority to become the World Fair Trade Organization. The WFTO represents 110 million artisans, farmers, growers, producers and Fair Traders worldwide, and organization demonstrating a 100% commitment to Fair Trade (FT100). The WFTO is the authentic voice of the Fair Trade movement and the organization behind World Fair Trade Day. In 2009 World Fair Trade Day falls on the 9th May.
