Smethport Chamber of Commerce sponsored National Wooly Willy Magnetic Toy Days June 22-26, 2010. Wooly Willy is a hit classic magnetic toy that soared to number 1 toy in its introductory year of 1955. Since then Wooly Willy continues to be manufactured by Patch Products of Beloit, Wisconsin at their Smethport factory that has produced the magnetic personality toy since its invention. One of the activities during the 2010 celebration was a window painting contest for Smethport businesses and groups. Buchanan Brothers Pharmacy again took the coveted Leonard Mackowski Award, name after the original Wooly Willy design artist. Willy inventor, James Reese Herzog, participated in all the events of the week and can be seen in the reflection in many of the contest windows. Other businesses and groups participating were Route 6 Diner, Smethport Senior Center/Visitors Center, Hamlin Bank and Trust Company, Northwest Savings, Lindgren Variety Store, Perfect Pace, and the Hamilton Building.
