  • I'm a trombonist, so I noted the cut of the "Somewhere" trombone solo. I have only seen one video that has the "Somewhere" solo in it, which is from 1966, and it is on youtube. I heard the band live in the early 70's, and the solo was still being played then. Did Buddy cut the solo permanently, and if so, when and why? Jim Trimble did a beautiful job with it on "Swingin' New Big Band." That may be him on the 1966 video on youtube.

  • This was 1982 and I only know what I have here. I am sure it was cut due to time elements. I cannot answer if he cut it permanently, perhaps someone else can. I hope you enjoyed it!!! I did!!

  • @chriswynevs Yeah sure, Travis can hammer the shit out of drums but there is only so much he can do with them.

  • @TheMASDrummer of course I understand. Im just saying that Buddy shits all over Barker because Barker just hammers the drums with no technique or finesse. Im a Buddy fan all the way!

  • @robko6262 Actually, he's having a mild heart attack. Really.

  • @robko6262 They are sloppy, out of tune, and stiff.

  • Sax solo sucks. Must he read his solos?

  • I HAVE WATCHED THIS SOLO AT LEAST A THOUSAND TIMES. MY FAVORITE MOMENT IS AT ABOUT 4 MIN. AND 10 SECONDS WHEN GOES FROM THE SNARE TO THE TOM AND BACK AND HITS THE HIGH HAT IN PASSING. YOU HAVE TO LOOK CLOSE TO CATCH IT. THE THING I HATE ABOUT DRUM SOLOS IN GENERAL, IS THE PERCEPTION BY THE PUBLIC THAT THEY MUST INTERRUPT WITH APPLAUSE DURING THE PERFORMANCE, THEREBY DROWNING OUT SOUND OF THE DRUMS.. SAVE IT FOR THE END.

  • he's playin with a suit, and with that speed, amazing

  • You can tell Buddy's not happy with the band in this performance...probably gave 'em a real tongue lashing after the show.

  • @TheMASDrummer

Zildjian didn't begin making the Armand ride until 2007.

  • I saw the band in 1971 when it toured the East Coast, and the trombone solo had been cut at that time. I believe it was deleted to give BR more solo time, but I don't know for sure.

  • @smcrane1554 If you check out "Army Blues Tribute to Buddy Rich-West Side Story Medley", they did a superb rendition of the chart complete with the trombone solo in "somewhere.

  • @chriswynevs

    lol ok man cool :D
