This is a new Epiphone Wildkat I got yesterday. I read a lot of good reviews on it and I wasn't disappointed. It's a very retro guitar and you can get a lot of cool sounds out of it. P90 pickups are noisy though. They hum. I know I keep playing the same thing over and over, but I am just demonstrating different pickup combinations.

I rarely stray from the neck pickup on any of my electrics, I like all the pickup combinations on this guitar. It's the most versatile guitar I own now.

Bear in mind that I'm recording through a crappy computer mic.

I was a die hard Epiphone hater for years, they put out a lot of crap awhile back. I love them now, they consistently put out good guitars the last few years, this is the fourth good one in a row I have owned.

  • I really enjoyed listening to your slidework on this video, so I went out and bought a wildkat myself. However, the stock strings on it don't seem to work very well for slide, and, on looking at it, the strings you have seem to be thicker. What gauge are you using? Thanks.

  • I do believe those are 11's on it, then tuned down a half step, and capoed to standard tuning. I do this with all my guitars, electric and acoustic.

  • I love p90's. And I've never played a sheriton that was any good. All tinny pieces of crap, dunno why. The dot studios are hit and miss but there are some great ones. And the epi les paul with the p90's is a great guitar too, as well as a number of their sg's and other les pauls. Their quality has really come up in the last few years. Guess the chinese are getting better at building guitars. The epi resonator guitars are complete crap though.

  • The guitar is a bit heavy to me, but i like really light guitars. It feels good otherwise. It has a small body so it isn't bulky. I paid $700 for it, and it was worth it.

  • Yeah, i really like the pick ups, they're not like the crap epiphone had out in years past. Real muddy pieces of crap.

The trick with noisy P 90's is to turn the volume down a bit on the guitar, and crank the amp instead.

  • hey dude, i love your sliding man! it's just regular open tuning isn't it?

    grettings from germany!

  • It's standard tuning?

  • If i could get a guitar with P90s that didnt hum i would never buy another guitar.

  • If you're into crazy solos, adjust the screws by the bigsby and you'll have basically no action at all between the strings and the neck without rattling. I did this to mine and it is amazing. Best guitar I've owned and I too was a strong disliker of Epiphone before.
