A year and a half ago I bought an old apple iie off ebay since it was the first computer I ever used and pretty much started me off on the path I'm on today. Back when I did that I had meant to buy a whole bunch of old games off ebay as well (and probably still will at some point) but today I ran across an awesome website that lets me get access to them immediately! Basically it takes advantage of the tape port on the back of the Apple iie computer and I play in the audio of the game data, and walla, old games! Pretty freaking cool if you ask me :)

Website to get the games:
http://asciiexpress.net/gameserver/
http://asciiexpress.net/diskserver/

Book I referenced:
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

PO Box:
Urgo
PO Box 37237
Raleigh, NC 27627-7237

  • I used to have a Commodore Vic20 All it's programs and games where on Tape...

you could connect up the 5 1/4 disk drive from my Commodore 128 and it would load games off the disks they where SS SD disks course I always notched them so you had two sides 500KB in total... you could store your entire game Library on one tape I personally liked the cartridge Rom games you could get an EPROM and load a game from a console onto your cartridge

  • bonito ordenador

  • It's actually quite possible to get almost all old computers to communicate with new computers in this manner, it can be done with a handshake method. Just to show my inner geek. All it takes is a bit of code on both ends to get the to understand the data.

  • If you have a super serial card, you can try the original apple game server. Requires java and a null modem cable. Advantages: Faster, supports a few disk-based games. Disadvantages: Slightly more finicky, but once you get it working you can also use stuff like ADT Pro to transfer disk images. Fun!

  • @Urgo6667 I might have to get the audio version as well. That sounds awesome.

  • Quite interesting, haha.
