HAPPY HOLIDAYS 2007 !!. It's cold outside...a perfect time for groove building in action.

-Workflow
-General thoughts

Building a groove using Roland's SP-404 Groove sampler, Roland's MC09 TB303 Clone with phrase lab and German engineered JOMOX's XBase09 Analog Drum Sequencer. This should give electronic musicians, hip hop warriors etc. (after listening to part1 ) on how to combine "boxes" to hand craft their sounds. This is an example for a work flow - and could be applied to a combination of oher machines such as AKAI MPC series (500, 1000, 2500 and even 2000/XL and 3000), KORG Electribes, Yamaha Sequencers (SU700, 7000 etc)

(letting the bass line drag a bit , or the snare come in a bit behind, or ahead of the beat).

However, only the sequencer mode syncs up with internal / or external MIDI. So when sending MTC (Midi Time Clock) to other devices, that's the way to go. That makes it less "JAM" intuitive, because you have to program your loops into patterns. This is more geared for use with single hits, but you can use full audio loops (beats) as well.

  • @KIdamathias

Well 404 has 2 different modes. Loop mode and sequencer/pattern mode. The loop mode will play any audio loop at it's own tempo. As long as samples are cut (sample exact in a DAW), these loops will stay in sync against themselves. Pressing them exactly takes practice (because the 404's electronic pads react slower than a real snare for example - therefore you'll have to compensate a bit) - but it also let's you shift the beat

  • can i write melodies on sp404 and loop it??

  • yes its always going anywhere first of all - sometimes using the sample is better, sometimes, you want to play it yourself - and change sounds or whatever moves ya...its 2 different kind of fees you have to pay if released - anyways - the point i made was, Prep ur stuff in GBand, or Qbas, Logic - and drag and drop with precision. hooking up a cd player via audio ins, is just too imprecise here (sounds not as good, editing is difficult..) .coming from DAW = SAMPLE accurate= LOOPS stay STABLE !!!

  • flashcard reader i think.
