Nació el 2 de mayo de 1936, en Madras (India) donde su padre servía en el ejército británico. En los comienzos de su carrera se lo conoció como Gerry Dorsey. El los años cincuenta alcanzó un gran éxito en Inglaterra y debutó en la televisión de ese país. El cantante y compositor Gordon Mills fue quien lo encaminó en su carrera. En 1967 es de nuevo reenlanzado al mercado, pero esta vez con el nombre artístico de Engelbert Humperdinck. El primer corte del álbum debut no alcanza el éxito esperado, pero fue con el segundo corte Release me, cuando conoció la fama. Llegó a vender un millón de copias en Inglaterra. Con la llegada de los años 70, su popularidad decayó pero prosiguió con su carrera en circuitos como Las Vegas. Estuvo algún tiempo sin grabar, pero en 1987 edita el álbum Recuerda que te amo, en el que incluía un duo con Gloria Gaynor. En 1990 había obtenido 58 discos de oro, 18 de platino y varios premios Grammy.
Actualmente tiene 73 años y todavia sigue cantando, es uno de los cantantes que más admiro, tiene una voz incomparable, es impresionante.

This phenomanal, sang by the GREAT ENGELBERT will be etched in my heart, mind and soul forever. NO ONE ABSOLUTELY NO ONE SINGS THIS THE WAY HE DOES!!! So powerful, but tender and sweet at the same time. He is so good with his fans. Thats why we love him so so much. There will never be another like him in my lifetime. Thanks you for posting. Just a gem I cant stop listening to it.
