  • @cjk002 One guy claims he's made $50K from a start of $50. Google "Wiser than the Crowd"; it should be the first result.

  • I've made close to 6,000 dollars in about 3 weeks. If your smart and do some research you can make alot of money.

  • ``and even the popular support can be bought if many are first sold into buying this "stock"´´ i can disprove this using a counter-example.

if you are holding stock that is likely to drop in price if mccain wins, but will give profit if obama wins, then you will want obama to win. but to cancel out the risks, you can still bet 10.000 dollars on mccain at a price of 15,3, to get 65.350 dollars if mccain wins, to compensate for your expected loss in stock value due to mccains presidency.

  • gwho: there is a service. intrade provides the platform, and charges a few cents for each transaction, but the actual money only moves between those that participate.

also, these markets produce some of the best predictions available. the people participating actually take it seriously, they try to come up with the most accurate predictions that they can make, and turn them into profit if there is a difference between their own analysis and the intrade prices.

  • Montgomery Burns??

  • Has anybody made money on this? I'd love to hear how much people have made.

  • also, conversely, the events can be manipulated, and even the popular support can be bought if many are first sold into buying this "stock".

this is nothing more than gambling. there is no production or even a service.

stock dividends is a profit from percentage ownership of a company. the rise in nominal stock price is the appreciation of th company itself.

this is shit. its a more or less fun way to gamble.

  • it's a chinese medicine principle that "qi moves blood, and blood carries qi"

it's a rather odd analogy, but it's very true with money and "real stuff"

money makes the world go round, and when things move, or needs to move (demand/craze) it brings about money.

whats good and necessary won't always line up with what is profitable. and once the profit factor ties a marriage with anything, it's like the touch of death. and will lead people to want the bad to occur, if it makes them a profit.

  • this is a horrible idea. not only does it not make sense, but there is even more of a financial aspect into important events. theres enough money, witholding, and censoring in elections.

horrible horrible idea. whoever has inside knowledge, or the power to create outcomes wins. this is already true even without intrade. however

  • I use this in my Iowa Caucus class - it is a very interesting learning tool. Don't spend too much money. Dr Politics! --LOL
