Very nice presentation. Unfortunately, I had the same result as 3070TimD below.
My bike is the 1985 model and has less than 5000 miles on it, but has been sitting since 1995. The carbs obviously need rebuilding and I wanted to try your plan. I had a problem with the first slide which cracked with only fairly minor taps.
At least a third of the circumference had been "glued" in and did not break away from the diaphragm. Factory procedure ??. I don't want to risk the other 3. I have a 03 and 09
Be very careful when trying this. I ordered the slide diaphragms from eBay but could not get the slide to separate. I slid the slide into a piece of PVC pipe and tapped it, nothing, did that a few times, nothing, finely gave it one wack to hard and broke the top out of the slide. Guess the guy that had the bike before me replaced the diaphragms and then glued the cap in. So I had to order new slides.
