FIfth of selected excerpts from 'Orfeo ed Euridice' staged at Glyndebourne, 1982. In which we witness the Ballet/dance scene showing Euridice being welcomed by heroes and heroines to the Elysian Fields / I Campi Elisi (or, Les Champs-Elysées), a heavenly place of flowery meadows and verdant groves with rivers and streams running through it. (No one sings in this excerpt - it's a Ballet section. 'Movement' [a.k.a., choreography] by Stuart Hopps.

Also, I've decided to skip the part in which Orfeo meets with the Furies and monsters on his way here.)

(Only selected scenes will be uploaded from this fine production. Rest will follow soon....)

In the other clips, see and hear the great British mezzo-soprano, Dame Janet Baker, singing the role of Orfeo with heartbreaking sincerity in this Glyndebourne staging (by Peter Hall). These performances were the singer's farewell to the operatic stage. Not to be missed !

  • How can this be? The ballet was added to the French version of 1774, not the Italian. Also this is just horrible on these instruments. Sounds like a student performance, intonation problems included and the interpretation is just awful.

  • @CongenitalMutation killing is my bidness.... and bidness is good
