These are marine robotic special effects I supervised with my colleague Paul Trefry for the Disney / Galatee "Oceans" documentary feature film. We produced a full size baby sperm whale, broadbill swordfish, eagle ray, sea lion and blue sharks and I also organised for my colleague John Cox in Qld to produce a beautiful loggerhead turtle.

Our NSW crew included Matt Ward, Dan Carlisle, Matt Rowe, Gustavo Balboa, Wantana Suesut

  • IM sorry I cant watch this anymore

It's shocking and these are just artificial recreations we made, the reality is much worse and even more haunting. I think it's important for people to see such things and man's barbarism towards other species. Only a few people are harmed by sharks each year, but tens of millions of sharks are killed each year by humans. We have lost all sense of perspective.

Even shark nets on swimming beaches seem to kill more other species than their intended target

I know its horrible but it's also worth doing an image search on Elephant poaching. If you can stand looking, then sharing the images with other who like the idea of ivory.

Elephants , like many cetaceans are highly intelligent sentient beings with brains larger than ours and are murdered just for their teeth.

The number of sharks hunted each year just for fins to make make a certain group of people feel "successful" or for weddings is estimated to be over 70million....each year.

It's simply not sustainable & is devastating ocean ecosystems.

I guess it's what happens when a large proportion of a culture thinks of nature in terms of food rather than an ecosystem.

Like the great auk, as a species becomes rarer there often becomes an even greater demand for the last remaining specimens

  • @GregOrca Thanks:) Been doing what i can, where i can since i was a young girl! Wearing my save the whales/dolphins etc. t-shirts thinking 'no one will allow this to continue after seeing my shirt!' Sadly never thought we'd still be at it this late in the game. Just like i thought we'd never see starvation still in this day and age:(

Cheers to love and respect taking us all over this year:))) Save Earth and all living things people!!

And these are just sanitised recreations we made Roxy. The reality is even more horrific and on a vastly greater scale.

I worked on a different doco recently that originally was going to use real footage of a real blue shark getting finned and dumped. It was incredibly distressing and I'm sad they chickened out of using the footage. The albatross you see here was a REAL albatross that had been caught in a longline off NSW and had been stored in a freezer at taronga Zoo

Excellent. Get active with a marine conservation group to multiply your energy.

Don't get yourself arrested & permanently gaoled or your concern will just be wasted on cell mates.

Distribute info to patrons who visit restaurants that sell shark fin. Write to embassies of countries that slaughter cetaceans, volunteer for anti whaling voyages etc.

Lobby your area against plastic shopping bags that kill untold numbers of sea creatures when swept down storm water drains out to sea.

  • @69Sirdragon and all compliments of our fellow cold as stone humans!! Makes me so sad and so ANGRY!!! Entirely UNACCEPTABLE!! And for as long as I've been alive!!! This all ends this year...Roarrrrrr!!

  • this makes me sad =(
