  • I'm building a DBM army based on that battle too...the list doesn't have any compulsory infantry for a reason ; )

  • It should be then a good idea for the new DBM book lists to have the infantry as optional. But as I saw even in the DBMM list the infantry has compulsory elements.

  • @BVargas78 , yes that is correct.

  • @godzeusgr didnt ducas betray the emperor and not support him with the reserve?

  • And it is an world reknowed club at that! Wish we had something like it in my hood.

  • Yes, you are correct. I read it in some sources, i.e: "Byzantine armies" (Ian Heath & Angus McBride, Osprey). But don't blame me. I just posted the video of my club. :-)

  • That was what they started out with. Only 10-20,000 participated in the actual battle and De Baillieul's contingent was not present (though other Western Mercs were), the infantry was back in the baggage camp during the battle, except for the Varangian Guards, but they were mounted for this one and only dismounted at the end to protect Romanus... My info comes from the book "Warriors of the Step." Good book.

  • I'm not the proper man to say if you're wrog or write. At wikipedia (Battle of Manzikert), says: "The army consisted of about 5000 Byzantine troops from the western provinces and probably about the same number from the eastern provinces; 500 Frankish & Norman mercenaries under Roussel de Bailleul; some Turkish (Uz and Pecheneg) & Bulgarian mercenaries; infantry under the duke of Antioch; a contingent of Armenian troops; and some of the Varangian Guard, to total around 60-70000 troops".

  • The Byzantine army at Manzikert was entirely mounted
