On the final day of the 2011 Santa Barbara Film Festival, Tom Delonge surprised fans with a whirlwind trip from London to Santa Barbara to show his band's and Will Eubank's film "LOVE".
I captured a little of his and Will's discussion with the audience at the Arlignton Theatre on State St. about the film. Here is a short review of the film I wrote:
"I think this band has only gotten better with every record. This film continues the trend. While it's not the best movie ever and I have my issues with it, I think the fact that it is a narrative film that stands on it's own with or without that band's involvement is a real testiment to the artistic creativity of this band.
There are very few tongue-in-cheek references to Angels' song titles and themes but where they are, they are appropriate and feel organic. This film was made not to blatantly promote the band but to make a film based on a story they wanted to tell. The music contributes to the story best when the instrumental versions of the songs the fans know the words to accompany the scene they are backing and vice versa.
This film is well shot, production value is high, visuals and sound are stunning, and Gunnar Wright takes us through this space odyssey with grace and poise with direction from freshman director Will Eubank.
I cannot wait to see the scenes that were cut and great the commentaries on the DVD/Blu-Ray. "
You can download the first part of the Angels and Airwaves record of the same name for free at www.angelsandairwaves.com and stay tuned to the site for more "LOVE" screenings to come.

@p00123456789 It was really really good but not what most people will be expecting at all. I respect that it was not all about the band and the music but a movie that accompanies the music and vice versa.

@dukenuk12 so even if you wernt a fan of the band do you think just as a film it was good ? and was there any new songs with lyrics not just accompaniments ?

@p00123456789 hard for me to say because i love the band. The first time I found the music distracting and the movie nothing amazingly special. The second time I looked at it more objectively and liked it a lot more. The other Film Festival patrons seemed were divided. Some seem to have really loved it and some were like "what the fuck did I just watch". It is not a visual interpretation of the music. It is a stand alone film. There was new music but no vocals. Just atmospheric stuff.
