Nine youngsters from the Bristol Bay region took part in the 2010 Bristol Bay Fly Fishing and Guide Academy sponsored in part by Trout Unlimited Alaska and the Nushagak-Mulchatna Wood-Tikchik Land Trust. The goal of the academy was to train local youth to work in Bristol Bay's lucrative sport fishing industry and to become conservation ambassadors for their beautiful but threatened region. Bristol Bay offers world-class angling opportunities. It is also where developers want to build one of the world's largest copper mines, a high-risk project called Pebble that could destroy Bristol Bay's salmon and trophy rainbow trout runs.
