In 2000 we discovered that a large percentage of diamondback terrapin nests on the Outer Cape were being attacked by fly maggots and the baby hatchlings consumed inside their eggshells. Aggressive conservation action has rescued thousands of hatchlings that would otherwise have been devoured before they had a chance to live.
