He wrote two different articles - one of which was even titled "Abolish the Public Schools" - advocating for the complete end of public education in America. @jaybee1973jaybee I've read it five times, and yet this ad still misleading. He talks about how there is a big economic gap in the public school system. He says that due to tax property, the wealthy school districts get the best stuff, while the poor school districts get very little. Thus, according to Harmer, we should not rely on a property tax because it guarantees that poorer districts will not have the same economic resources to devote their students as do wealthier districts.

This ad aired on 10/26 during the 11 p.m. news on KPIX-DT and KGO-DT. Apparently after this ad was created, the Bay Area News Group endorsed McNerney. So now just about every major newspaper in the 11th Congressional District has endorsed McNerney. As for the other comments on this video, Mr. Harmer's op-ed is available for viewing for free in the archive at sfgate.com.

This ad is quite misleading. First off, Harmer does not advocate abolishing public schools, but rather advocates for local control of schools. His main premise is manifested in this quote, "Government should exit the business of running and funding schools."
