@milvus7migrans sadly its ture but not all

This is nothing, I have landed in that airport at around 9pm and those pilots are still able to land those airplanes in the dark, when you touch the ground you feel like you've just reached heaven. I can only applaud the pilots who dare to touch Toncontin in night time.

now that's what you call an interesting approach

nice approach
but Kai Tak's was more insane

Why don't they just make a bigger airport somewhere else?

@tommybass40 There is another runway in Soto Cano US Military base in Comayagua. There was a plan to built civilian terminal there after TACA plain crashed in Toncontin in 2008 but then it was cancelled.
The problem is you need to go over a mounatin ridge to go there from Tegucigalpa and the road is very narrow and unsafe. there would be more people dead from car accidents on the way to/from the airport. :) And build the new higway would be very expansive.

I went to honduras in 2003 for a seminar, when I arrived there my thoughts were not of a happy person, the first impression of the airport made matter worst for me, but believe me that when I left a week later my heart stayed behind with the nice hondura's people.. very nice people and after all a nice country.

I spent there about half a year in total. Good counrty, nice people.
But Honduras has one of the highest homicide rate in the world so you must be careful and watch your back. Actually you must just be reasonable and do not go to some particular areas (especially after dark). ;)

what you mean?! it´s not reasonable in any place do that ¬¬
there´s no such thing like 100% safe city (especiallly after dark)

Do what? Clarify please.
There are safe cities and not safe cities. Just compare Montreal and Baltimore.
And regarding Honduras I can say that once one of my colleagues had been robbed right in front of the president palace, with all these police and sequrity around, in the middle of the day (a boy grabbed his cell phone and runaway on the bike).
And in San Pedro Sula I witnessed a situation when at 11pm a man walked to the gas station for help. He was without pants and covered with blood.
