QE2 Southampton, her home port says 'Farewell'

From BBC South - a short montage of clips from the life of the great liner, as she leaves her home port-Southampton for the last time. No other liner will ever command the love and imagination that QE2 has attained. Now the grand old lady of the sea is supposedly being made into a floating hotel in Dubai. Yes indeed, I did thank you GLF, the best years of my life. I worked in the Casino inboard, so we were never open in Port, which meant lots of time off for sightseeing. There is a page on Facebook, QE2 and Cunarders, where the old crew post pics and keep in touch. You are welcome to join and have a look around if you wish. 19 years of no bills or taxes or worries. How times have changed since then.

She is a British ship, but her home Port - and there can be no argument about this, as the name is proudly emblazoned on her stern - is "Southampton". That is where she should be for everyone to enjoy.
