This is a video update of the progress on my XR3 car build. At this point, the foamcore body is taking shape and provisions are being made for the side windows. After detailing the foamcore, fiberglass is next.

  • Foam is not the home depot stuff -- I used ELFOAM from the Elliot Company (indianapolis) ---it works much better. Mostly 1" thckness but has to laminate in many cases to make thicker sections.

  • Thanks - headlights from 2005 Mitsu Eclipse, brakes are 2002 chev cavalier, tires are not low rolling resistance, at least not yet. I don't understand the 15 degrees question -- Is there some rule or guideline about that?

  • Looks very cool! I would have loved to see the process of how the body was actually sculpted. Keep up the good work!

  • Nice take on the body . The foam is fun to work with fiberglassing really makes it solid. The body on my Tri-Magnum uses the same materials and construction method. Riley called for 5 gallons of body filler in the plans and that wasn't too far off. The XR3 is a very complex build it's nice to see one getting finished . Great work!

  • What foam and thickness are you using. It doesn't look like el cheapo Home Depot foam.

  • Hey, looking pretty good! I like the design you came up with for the front. Good to see progress too.

What vehicle are those headlights from?

Hard to tell from the video, are you making sure to not exceed 15 degrees for the trailing slope of the roof and sides in the back? Will you be using low rolling resistance tires?

What car's brakes are you using? I was thinking a Metro's would suffice given the XR3's weight, and they're dirt cheap.
