Pop icon Michael Jackson, 50, who died Thursday afternoon after being rushed to a Los Angeles hospital in cardiac arrest, had a long history of confirmed health problems, in addition to rumored conditions.

In 1984, Jackson was burned while singing for a Pepsi-Cola commercial in Los Angeles, when the special effects smoke bomb misfired. He had to have major surgery on his scalp, and said that because of the intense pain he developed an addiction to painkillers.

He also was reported to have a form of lupus in the 1980s, but it was later said to have gone into remission.

He has had numerous plastic surgeries, including rhinoplasty and a chin implant.

In 1993, Jackson's dermatologist, Dr. Arnold Klein, released a statement saying that Jackson had a rare skin disease called vitiligo. Vitiligo causes a person to lose melanin, the pigment that determines the color of skin, hair and eyes, in patches or all over the body. The condition affects 1 percent to 2 percent of the population, and no one knows what causes it. Learn about the difference between heart attack and stroke

He was also hospitalized with chest pains in 1990 and postponed a concert because of dehydration in August 1993. A concert tour was cut short in November 1993 because of an addiction to prescription painkillers amid allegations of child molestation.

During a rehearsal at the Beacon Theater in New York in December 1995, the entertainer collapsed onstage from apparent dehydration and low blood pressure and was hospitalized

  • Just for the record in 83-84 Michael WAS under A LOT of stress. It may not have appeared to be that way but behind the scenes he was dealing with a lot of stuff that no one knows about. YES he WAS under the stress of tabloids during that time as well. The stress of his looks, people were calling him gay and hating him for no apparent reason, people being jealous, he had death threats and crazy stalkers, etc. He had to deal with this stuff BEFORE and after Thriller but it just got worse.

  • Man,i saw one guy on the street who is same as michael in 1987 on Bad tour!!!!

  • Stress takes its toil, but causes vitiligo? i don't think so. My sister has it, and you used to could tell that she had alot of indian in her, but now her skin is white and transluscent. It started in just one spot and seemed like hers spread rapidly. she can't get in the sun or she will literally break out in blisters..at one time just working in the flower bed without shoes or socks on caused her to have third degree burns. This summer has been so unreal with so many celebrities dying!

  • I have already suffered 2 heart attack & have what my phsyican calls dangerously high triglycerides & LDL, and i was told that if i do not get these levels under control i will have another. This did frighten me and i knew i needed to do something to reverse this damage. I knew plant sterols were powerful so i tried Sterolyn, and i'm very proud to say that my triglycerides have gone from 512 all the way down to 155. LDL count down from 240 to 132. Great product.
