Obama urged the Tamil Tigers to stop fighting and release civilians as a first step toward peace. "Their forced recruitment of civilians and their use of civilians as human shields is deplorable. These tactics will only serve to alienate all those who carry them out."

For the record, the LTTE surrendered following this plea by President Obama and waived the white flag. The SLA in return not only gunned down these unarmed men and the non-combatant political members of LTTE, but also all their wife and children. There has to be an INDEPENDENT investigation by the HRC of all War Crimes and genocide in SL. As the learned Bruce Fein has repeatedly advocated, having had the in depth understanding of history, a two-state solution is the way forward for peace in SL.
