For more information about this event, please go to www.tedxislay.com. This speech was made at TEDxIslay in Austin, Texas on May 15, 2010. All of the speakers were deaf.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
Wow That was awesome! Really appreciate opportunity to watch this caliber of presentation on-line. Thanks so much! I don't know very much about this topic, but it seems like a big step would be if the Actors guild/unions had a professional code of conduct that deferred work in the spirit of ADA access and reserved those roles for authentically representative Deaf/Blind/Disabled actors. It is presumptuous for a Hrg non-signer to accept a Deaf signing role. Result is hollow performance.

Captions please, quality captions. Or you speak to the converted, and thousands of deaf, deafened and people with hearing loss are excluded.

One of the most eloquent explanations of why to cast deaf actors. Bravo, Linda.
