Many thanks to Simon Leach for his instructional pottery videos.

Check him out here:

Here's my first rolled rim and I show my Giffin Grip that I use for turning pots.

PS - I watched the video again and will try to make my finger do the finishing of the rolled bit.

  • Marihani... I posted a video response to this with my Giffin grip... as you can tell you can use yours better than I can mine. I don't know if I should love it or hate it. Sometimes I like it, other times not.

Anyway, you did a way better job explaining the grip on your video than I did on mine.

  • The only thing that's wrong with your grip is that it isn't sitting flat down on your wheel head. When you fix that, I am sure you will be much happier with it :-)

  • i want one of thoughs. i dont have much of a problem sentering. but their are day wheir i tihnk. maaaaan i got too much to do for me to have to take the time to senter . but oh well i do it farly quick but i wouldlove to have one of thoughs things you have.

  • I truly appreciate it. Also because I can then easily lift the pot up and check the thickness to see if I can shape the outside just a little bit more, for example.

  • i just checked them out, their not cheep. 139.00 bux.

    ill save.

also, im a fan of simon leach too. hes liveing my dream.

    ill get their.

    have a wunderful day joe

  • It is such a treat, especially if you aren't an expert centerer like Simon. You won't regret saving up for it!

    Have a great day, yourself!

  • Never heard of a Giffen Grip. I guess you learn something new every day, even if it's about eight months late :)

  • Sadly, yes, it is more expensive than you would expect a few bits of plastic, metal and rubber to be.

You might check E-bay for a used, one, though. They are very solidly made, so not easy to wreck it, even with lots of use.
