@salmonfire i'm descended from Eastern, Western Abenaki, and Mi'kmaq peoples. The Eastern are associated with Passamaquoddy and Penobscot, but the Western are distinct from them, sharing similar language and customs, but different in some ways due to being "neighbours" with Mohawks. The Confederacy is post-contact, but the people aren't, we've been here forever ;). We can nitpick and disagree or agree, but that's where it's at as I see/know it.

@Kjikaqawej The Wapana'ki'k Confederacy is a post-colonial creation, however we were part of a few Confederacies long before columbus. Raven to answer your Question, the Penobscot were the Abenaki component. There were based in Down East Maine, and also had a Tribe in Nova Scotia until the early 1700's.

great video, the first chant was the Humble Song, its such a beautiful Chant when heard in its entirety!

@nativestyle26 Mind you, those aren't our names for ourselves ;), but you get the idea. We're not tribes either, we're matrilineal cultures and full-fledged nations, more than the "USA" or "Canada" will ever be. Tribe is what the invaders called us, and they've called us worse things. How would you like to be called river rat, or red n***** or other such nasty things? Please inform yourself.

@nativestyle26 um, considering that my family is two of the five, Mi'kmaq and Abenaki, I will differ on that, as well as many others. I don't know where you learned that, but I think your source was wrong. I'm no elder, but hopefully I listened well enough to be paying enough attention to them.
Mi'kmaq, Maliseet, Passamaquoddy, Penobscot, Abenaki. The middle one is a pipe, the carriers. To my knowledge, I'm probably wrong here, this confederacy was formed post-contact after the euro invasion.

@Kjikaqawej I am bit confused on this subject, reason saying. I was always taught that the four major tribes(Mi'kmaq, Maliseet, Passamaquoddy and Penobscots) made up the Wabanaki Confederacy. I am sure that other surrounding tribes became allies...our traditonal wampum belt that symbolizes the Wabanaki Confederacy -^+^+ = +^+^- ( sorry best I can do) each star represants each tribe and each triangle represants each tribes long house. The peace pipe in the middle unifies the 4 tribes together.

Um, why does she keep saying four Nations when it's 5? She keeps missing the Abenaki.... also, it's "Confederacy" not "Confederation"....
the drum needs a little more fine tuning, but they have heart.... Southern Echo based in Tennessee are Wabanaki- you should invite them up- they rock!! Bert Cox is Woodstock 1st Nations with his sons and a Cherokee friend. google them.....

@wabiseet Thank you for watching my video of the 2010 Wabanaki Native American Festival in Bar Harbor, Maine. You are more than welcome to attend the annual Wabanaki's Basket Makers Market in Bar Harbor, Maine. Bring your drum along and any stories you want to share next year. We need to keep our cultures and traditions alive and "rock-in." Culture is to the human spirit what oxygen is to the human body.
Peace.
