The Western world is justifiably proud of being an open and free society. Unfortunately, the right to speak freely and without fear or censure is being gradually and insidiously eroded by the rising threats of terrorism and political correctness.
In times of national and global uncertainty, it is natural to turn to government to provide assurances of protection and stability -- assurances that are paid for by increasing restrictions on civil liberty and individual freedoms.
Implicit in the definition of a free exchange of ideas is allowing those who disagree with us to speak for their beliefs. But should we draw a line when the right to free speech is used to preach hatred and incite violence and fear in the name of religion? Is it hypocritical to try to silence such speech?
You know, there feels like a constant theme of a handshake between "free speech, even when it offends" and "that particular person with whom I disagreed used a term in their free speech which I find offensive, and I think should be stopped".
I was expecting a considered, self aware and logically consistent presentation from the first speaker, but after viewing her talk a few times now, I'm left with the feeling that she commits the very sins of which she judges others.
Rather disappointing.

I can't help but suspect the passing critique of scientific consensus which I will paraphrase as "that some scientific ideas are deemed to overrule those who disagree". is a .. climate change dog whistle. If that wasn't his intent, then his wording reflects a poor understanding of the practice of science, while at the same time itself being an attempt to limit the speech of a scientific majority with which one disagrees. Intellectualy dishonest, or ignorant, or both.

Is religious hatred the most important threat to freedom of speech? What about National Security Letters (see Patriot Act), what about corporate attempts to censor truthful GMO labelling?, what about...

Really good input by both speakers. It's sad that this video currently has only 158 views. And "What, What, In The Butt" has 36 million. Haha. Either way, I applaud their effort.
