Superior University, Department of Mass Communication Management hold a Seminar today on "21st Century Media: New Frontiers, New Barriers" to commemorate the World Freedom of Press at Superior University Raiwind Road Campus. The event was presided by the Chairman Superior Group of Colleges Prof. Dr. Ch. Abdul Rehman and Mr. Sajjad Mir was the Chief Guest of the Event. On this occasion Prof. Dr. Mughees-ud-Din Sheikh, Dean Department of Mass Communication, Prof. Ata-ur-Rehman Chairman Department of Mass Communication, Mr. Sohail Warraich, Mr. Sajjad Mir and Mr. threw light on the true meanings of freedom of media. The speakers were of the view that a free press has tremendous power, if power is defined as the capacity to influence others. The news media in a democracy generally have the right to report information without prior government approval. Many countries provide legal protections to journalists so they can exercise that right. But with rights come responsibilities. For journalists, the most basic responsibility in a free society is to report the news accurately and fairly: to practice ethical journalism. But there come certain barriers in the form of pressure from government, owners, and multinational companies and on top of everything pressure from within which is in the form of lust and greed distort the objectivity of journalism. The speakers added that in order to free our press from certain pressures a journalist ought to recognize his moral as well as social obligations. At the end of Seminar Prof. Dr. Ch. Abdul Rehman presented souvenirs to the honorable guests.
