It is said that some tribes from the East of Libya were very racist towards black Africans. That, coupled with the claim that Gaddafi employed mercenaries from elsewhere in Africa (black Africans) and this contributed to this tragedy. Entire groups of legitimate (yet illegal) migrants on their way to Europe from surrounding Libya have been picked up by the scores and murdered by Nato-supported 'rebel' forces.
